16/5/10

St.Nics 5 – 0 Kenilworth Wardens

Second meeting within six matches away to Kenilworth on yet another ¾ smooth pitch.
Slow start to the match with the ball seeming to be out of play more than in.
Kenilworth opting for the long ball over the top instead making use of the pitch.
St Nics commanding most of the ball by spreading the play around the park through what gaps open up forcing the wardens to chase.
The pattern didn’t change with the Wardens being more defensive than attack in their play.
Well done lads for not conceding for the first time to Kenilworth.

Second meeting away midweek match to Rugby Town. As with all other previous meetings this match wasn’t go to be a walk in the park.

Both teams trying to get through on what appeared to be a crowded pitch.
Score line doesn’t reflect how many chances were created but a well deserved win after all.

Today St Nics host the quarter finals of the league internal cup
against Coundon court.
With an early goal for St Nics it seemed that the visitors heads had
already dropped.
St Nics control was swift and justified with chances and goals quickly
tallying up.
Going into half time St Nics had again repeated last weeks performance
to be able keep shape and control a well earned lead.
Second half started with Coundon chasing the play not be able to
really find a way into the match.
Goals not as bountiful as the first half but even so the way the game

St.Nics 1– 0 Atheletic United

St Nics visit Athletic for their first meeting away at Sowe Common with St Nics taking the bare 11 the boys new the result would have to be ground out but in the end the result went the right way.
St Nics off to a flying start to put hosts on their back foot keeping
the pressure in opponents half.
St Nics creating plenty of chances only to halted by a strong
Athletic defense.
As we a previous draw against Athletic they are certainly a side not to be taken too lightly .
Athletic seem to have come up this year and shaken the red league. This
team will give you battle across the park unfortunately today St Nics
got drawn in and football seem to get forgotten.
Playing at this level battles shouldn't be considered focus should be on football.
Match seem to take a lull with both teams testing each other.
Athletic got their turn and took their chances.
Fortunately St.Nics keeper focused making two crucial saves one being
a disputable penalty kick.
With the Lose of shape due to players missing reducing the size of the
pitch making it seem crowded in the centre .Finally St Nics got what
the rightly deserved when a well delivered cross is dispatched into

St.Nics 6 – 1 Coundon Court

Following an earlier fixture in the season it was going to be interesting match considering St.Nics 2nd match encounter of the last season with the opposition pushing the match to the wire.
Unfortunately for Coundon it didn’t seem that their team had rallied them selves for the event.
With this lapse of interest the visitor took control very early ripping into the back four and dealing an early blow.
With this St.Nics quickly established authority across the park never really letting Coundon get a foot hold in the match forcing the hosts back.
The chase still going on well into the second half Coundon was rewarded with a tap in from a free kick. Never enough to ignite fire to claw back the game.
Well done today Lads great control.

St.Nics 2 – 1 Withymoor East Colts

This week saw St.Nics play hosts to Withymoor East Colts in the semi final of the regional Qualifiers of the TESCO Cup .
A win today would see either team advanced on into the regional final to do battle to become the regional representative in the fourth coming rounds of the cup.
With conditions against both teams today’s fixture was going to be gruelling.
As score line suggests teams that do battle in this competion are evenly matched with play being matched across the park.
Well delivered corner kick resulted in the hosts taking an early lead from a clearance error.
Centre of the park battle still raged on and at times looked like the trenches with mud and tackles flying every where with midfield trying to command possession.
Second half saw the visitors take early control of the game and again summit St.Nics ever strong defence to a bit of pressure but unfortunately this time to be rewarded with a pitched high ball just out of keepers finger tip reach to bring them back into the match.
Match opened up into extra time with both teams dead locked with chances from the hosts going just wide of there target frustration and fatigue settings in.
With the match having penalties written all over it St.Nics scored from a another shot on the keeper to be parried into the path of following striker to seal the victory.

St.Nics to take the lead but to have decision with drawn ,when ball had earlier gone out of play.
Copsewood rallied to this and tried a few quick attacks but to no avail.
St.Nics carried on spreading play through out the pitch to open scoring chances only to be halted by formidable presence of Copeswood`s keeper.
Similar pattern to the first half with St.Nics having 9/10 of the chances.

With the match under way both teams quickly trying to establish an early lead. With every attack came an equalised counter attack.
Balls passed into the last third of the pitch were passed about like pin ball then sent straight back out to put the opposition on their back foot to deal with the on coming pressure.

St.Nics 3 – 1 Attleborough

This weekend sees St.Nics Home in the Quarter finals of the Nursing Cup to another former adversary in Nuneaton League .
St.Nics had some great early possession testing Attleboroughs Defence with some quality through balls to open chances for some powerful long range shots .
Attleboroughs responeded with their speedy winger causing problems down the flanks only to be dealt with St.Nics ever strong Defense .
Mistaking hand ball from Attleborough in keepers area resulted in the first goal to go to St.Nics .
Attleborough responded to this with increased tempo trying to break through to be rewarded with an equalizer to take match to a draw at half time .
Second half started a bit quiet trying to settle with a change in formation ,either team not wanting to make a mistake .Attleborough began with the long balls over but there wasn’t anything St.Nics couldn’t handle and ball was quickly turned against them in return.Fair play to Attleboroughs Keeper for keeping Good eye on the ball from a lofty long range shot which was destining into the net .

Great build up play from the back to the front to try and open up opposition to be stopped by Goal keeper.
Alvis never really looked like they were going to take control early but happy to sit back and defend .
Early misunderstanding between keeper and defence allowed St.Nics to pounce on opening Goal.

St.Nics first away fixture of the new season to Chapelfield Colts.Looking back to last year encounters with the Chaps St.Nics should be prepared . Pressure was on from the whistle with Chaps closing down what little space that was bought .

With every great chance at both ends it was equalized with strong defending .
Match held to 0-0 till Half time .

St.Nics 2 – 0 Weddington Thistle

This was to be St.Nics first mid week fixture away at Blackberry lane.
Game started at such a pace with what looked to be a early penalty decision not given to last years League Champions.

St.Nics being drawn into what seemed to be a Tennis match with the ball passing over Midfield to be quickly sent back.
Pitch not helping with the run of play for both Teams causing more frustration to erupt from game.
From the persistence of the visitors they were rewarded with first well taken goal.

Second half St.Nics began to take control keep the ball on the floor to play some great passing moves to open up plenty of scoring chances only to be denied by great saves.
The saves were as equally important at the other end to keep match in St.Nics favor from Thistles free kick .
As always through great Team determination to win St.Nics finished match with another great goal to take the well deserved three points.
Well done to the boys .

St.Nics 4 – 1 Coundon Court

This was the opening game of the season at home.
Match didn’t race off out of the traps as expected, both Teams taking time to settle down.

St. Nics first to take control through great passing play across the pitch to be rewarded with a goal from a corner kick.
From continuous searching play from St.Nics against a well organised defence saw St.Nics go into Half Time at 3-0.
Second half never really resumed pace of the later part of the first half offering the visitors opportunities to gather strength test our defence.
St.Nics to capitalize on rushed clearance to add forth goal to match.
Coundon Court kept their heads to continue to push for a goal and was rewarded in latter part of the half.
Good Luck for the rest of the Season Boys.
