Match Reports

9th May - London Rd Lions (A) 5-3 (L)

An excellent performance from the lads against the league leaders and probable champions. We started slowly and Warwick made two excellent saves before the Lions went ahead with a superb shot. We kept trying to play and from a thrown in, Logi controlled the ball, played a neat pass to Simon who crossed for Simo to slam the ball home - a truely superb move and great goal.
Immediately, Lions went back in front with a well worked move and strong finish. We then went through a bad period with poor passing and tackling and the Lions showed why they are league leaders. At half time we were 4-1 down.

In the second, 20 minutes of play was very even. Then we scored what was my goal of the season. Starting in defence, we made a series of short passes until 4p cut inside, shot and Jas finished off the rebound emphatically. We lost Craig through injury and quickly lost a goal but the lads bounced back again and Simo finished off another good move. We had a few more chances and ended winning the second half 2-1, overall losing 5-3.

The majority of the team played very well. Special mentions for Warwick, who made some stunning saves, Frasier who had a good game at the back, Dan for his tackling and energetic ever present play, Simon and Logi for some neat play up-front and Simo for the quality of his finishing. However, my MOTM was Jas who put in a much improved performance in midfield. Well done Jas.
This game and the Whitley games have been very pleasing because they have shown that there is not a big gap between the leaders and ourselves. When we play our passing game we are a cracking side.

May 5th Whitley Jnrs(A) 1-2 (L)

With 11 boys we travelled to the joint league leaders. Paul K illness and Haz injury were missing. Despite this, the lads battled well and we were left wondering why we were not up alongside Whitley in the league. Two errors gave Whitley the result ;Logi equalised for us finishing off a nice move from close range. The best move of the match involving several passes almost resulted in a goal for Simon Olorenshaw. The defence played really well and Dan the pen man, with a man to man role, played very well. MOTM was Craig LLoyd for his much improved performance and some fantastic headed clearances. Whilst our football was a times scrappy, this was a good performance against a top side.

May 2nd Rugby (H) 0-5 (L)

A fair result would have been 5-2 as we did create and miss some good chances. However, in my opinion Rugby were the best team to play against us this year and they thoroughly deserved the victory. Lessons learnt include passing quickly, to feet and simple football played patiently. Congratulations to the Rugby staff for this excellent performance.

28th April - Peugeot Citroen (A) 1-3 (W)

3rd win in a row. Atrocious conditions, wind, rain and a poor pitch. A battling performance by the lads earned this victory. Against the wind and rain, we didn't play much football, but were comfortable until - yet again - we failed to clear the ball and a Peugeot player finished well. Second half, our passing game came back in patches. Dan the pen man sunk a penalty before the best move of the game...defence to attack...delightful ball from Simo, great battling by 4P to cross to Logi Bear who just luvs to finish from there.
They missed a simple chance and we went down the other end, 4p again cut into the box and was fouled. Dan the pen man scored from the rebound. 3 out of 3 for Dan the pen man.

MOTM was 4p for creating all 3 goals and good performances from Stevie List, Wasser and Dan the pen man.

21st April - Bedworth Eagles (H) 5-3 (W)

2 wins in a row - great performance from the forwards in particular Simon R and Simo. First 20 minutes we didn't get going and from a corner (surprise surprise) we conceded yet another goal.Next 20 minutes, we took over, Simo scored 2 with Logi Bear to make it 3-1 - during this period we played some great football thru midfield and into the forwards. Last 5 minutes we slowed up and yet again, poor defensive play let Bedworth in to score a soft second goal.

Second half and we conceded a penalty - bit harsh and unjustifiably it was 3-3. For a long period, we forgot our passing game with the ball being lofted forward too often. We changed to 3 in midfield with Frasier man marking their star player and all of a sudden we took over. 2 quick goals from Simo (one made from Logi and the other from Simon O) and a disallowed goal plus 2 other great opportunities..we ended the game on top and deservedly so.

MOTM was Simo for his aggressive running and finishing followed closely by Simon O. Paul Gerrard Koenig and Steve List played very well and in the second half, Warwick was awesome - commanding his area and handling the ball to perfection.

18th April Peugeot Citroen (H) 7-2 (W)

Luxury - 12 players available

Great result and performance and all without "the worlds greatest coach" watching. Apparantly, lots of simple passes, plenty of good moves, two goals involving a touch and a low shot into goal, a penalty scored and good keeping. Hmmmm...something good must be happening!

Scorers - 4p, Haz, Simo (2), Logi Bear, Frasier and Danny boy from the spot.

7th April - Central Ajax (H) 1-3 (L)

We have to ignore the result because this was a game we dominated, missed loads of chances and made very bad defensive errors. After a nervous first 5 minutes, we went on to play our best football of the season with some excellent passing moves which deserved goals. We eventually took the lead when Simmo's shot slipped under the keeper - more chances followed before we gave away a very silly goal having had at least 4 opportunities to clear the ball from our penalty area.

There were a few players deserving the MOTM and in my opinion the midfield were exceelent in the first half - Haz, Simon and Frasier. The defense is still the worry with goals being conceded too often from silly mistakes.

4th April - Massey Ferguson Colts (H) 0-3 (L)

Firstly a big thanks to Stevie List who turned up despite feeling ill. With 11 lads performing and others away on holiday, the result was not a fair reflection of the game. The lads outplayed Massey for most of the game (a fact acknowledged by their coach) and only defensive errors and poor finishing contributed to the wide gap. We gave away a silly goal after 5 minutes through a lapse in concentration. Warwick came to our rescue on a couple of occasions in the first half as we battled against the wind. At half-time and 1-0 down the lads had played extremely well.

Turning with the wind behind us, we were optimistic however a familiar trend occurred, poor defending 2-0 from a penalty, we miss a penalty, poor defending again and 3-0. Despite creating loads of chances, we failed to score...full credit to Masseys keeper who made many fine saves to thwart us.

This was a very pleasing performance despite the result. MOTM for the second match running was Nathan closely followed by Warwick in goal (Floyd's opinion). Frasier, Simon O and 4p all played well in midfield although the boys need to improve with the quality of the passing - especially forward passes. Dan proved that he really is a Centre half with a good performance - need to cwork on his positional play.

31st March - Chapelfield Colts (H) 3-2 (W)

We decided to experiment and change the formation to 3-4-3 and it took the lads 15-20minutes to settle into this. During this period Simo scored a typical solo effort and poor defending led to a Chapelfield equaliser. The best move of the season involving a number of short, simple passes ended with Simo heading narrowly wide. We took the lead with a well worked move and a great header from Haz to Simo who finished with a delightful chip over the goalie.

At the start of the second half, Logi scored a superb individual goal following a nice pass from Haz and I think Logi finished with his left foot! After this, we lost our way for 20 minutes and Chapelfield dominated the play. A second goal came (yet again) from a corner. In the last 10 minutes we created 3/4 really good chances and to my frustration, we hurried our shots.

The positives were good play in the first half, when the ball went to Haz up front things happened and all three goals came this way. Simon battled well and made some great runs / passes and Nathan, in midfield and defence (last 10 minutes) had a very good game and was my MOTM.

28th March - Christ the King (A) 3-0 (L)

Motm was Jaspreet for his effort and a number of good runs going forward. Craig showed that he is improving following his long period absent through injury. In the last 20 minutes, Nathan played very well at right back. The rest of the team showed little appetite or intelligence on the ball to make an impact.

21st March - Bedworth Eagles (h) CUP 1-2 (L)

In windy difficult conditions, the lads had a great opportunity to progress to the cup semi-final. Unfortunately, for the same reasons as previous matches, we forgot the basics. Against the wind, we were doing well but, yet again, we conceded a soft goal from a corner. We also created plenty of chances, but failed to hit the target through hurried play.

In the second half, with the wind, there was much optimism....Bedworth however scored a second goal, following a mix up in midfield. Simo pulled one back with 20 minutes to go following a great through ball from Frainy - it was a great finish.

A penalty miss would have levelled the scores and indeed a draw would have been a fair result.

We resorted far too often to "kick and rush", not the TPM approach being drummed in at training. and this was our downfall. MOTM wa s Danny Hammonds for his excellent handling in the first half (Floyds opinion).

This game was for the taking.....congratulations and good luck to Bedworth in the next round.

14th March - Bedworth Eagles (A) 2-1 (W)

This game was played in atrocious conditions. Despite this it was a second win in a row and pleasing for thebattling nature of our performance. In the first half, we went into an early lead with a delightful passing move involving Frasier, 4P and finished by Logi. A few minutes later it was 2-0 with Logi again finishing well from a long through ball. More chances were missed as we completely outplayed Bedworth for the first 30 minutes. However, Bedworth were unfortunate not to score late in the half when they missed a penalty following some very poor defensive play.
Second half against the wind and the football was not pretty. But we battled well and created two "one on one" opportunities. Stevie List had an excellent game, Simon O and Haz battled well throughout and MOTM was Frasier in particular for his strong second half play.

7th March Ashgreen Utd (H) 4-0 (W)

It is pleasing to report a clean sheet and a very comprehensive performance and victory. With 11 players available, we played some excellent football and created many chances. I think it is fair to say that 4-0 flattered the opposition. Our composure in front of goal continues to be a source of frustration although, it has to be stated that Ashgreen's goalkeeper was very good and made some fine saves including a penalty save from Haz.

Logan - as usual - scored a hat-trick finishing off some excellent moves. Haz scored the other which is still in dispute as Frasier claims his shot was going in.

There were some very good performances and it is difficult to name all....MOTM was Jaspreet for his intelligent play at the back. Frasier battled well up-front and was unlucky not to score - holding the ball and good distribution was a key feature today for Frasier. Paul and Haz dominated the middle and Nathan was assured in defence. Logi Bears third goal following a great move was truely superb.

29th February - Finham Park Rangers (A) 2-2 (D)

We had the luxury of choosing from virtually a full squad with 13 players available for selection. A warm welcome to Warwick Massey who has joined us to the end of this season as goalkeeping cover along with Daniel Hammonds. We say goodbye to Matty Hillier and our best wishes go to him and his family for the future.

Against the wind and slight slope, we did extremely well. Finham scored a very good goal mid-way through the first half and failed therefter to threaten our goal. We played some excellent football and build up play with 3 good chances missed.

In the second half it was all us as chances and hurried play in front of goal added to the tension. Then, Simo latched on to a keeper error from 4p's shot 1-1 and a few minutes later, a superb solo effort from Simo put us ahead. Incredibly with their third attempt on goal, Finham scored from a corner in the last minute. With seconds to go Logi Bear hit a long shot which their keeper saved really well.

Finhams coach commented that we were the best footballing side he had seen and that he was relieved to have secured a draw.. Lets now build on this.

Special mention to Warwick who made a very good save in the match, to D Frain who played well at full-back, despite his desire to dribble at the back on the odd occasion and Simo, for two great goals. MOTM for a much improved individual performance - D Frain (Floyds opinion).

22nd February - Bedworth Utd (A) 3-1 (L)

With 10 turning up on a very cold and windy day, the lads battled hard in difficult circumstances.

We were unfortunate to be losing at half-time 2-1 with Bedworth creating two chances and scoring two whilst we had 3 good opportunities scoring one from a corner.

The second half performance again saw chances squandered as we failed to remain composed in front of goal. As we tired, the quality of our play deteriorated and in the end Bedworth deserved the victory.

Nobody stood out to warrant the MOTM. A big thanks to Simo for volunteering to be keeper. He had an excellent game and made 2 quality saves that I can recall. We say goodbye to Matty and wish him well in the future.

8th February - Chapelfield Colts (A) 6-1 (W)

2nd Round Coventry Cup
Game switched to Chapelfields ground. Weather was difficult with a strong cold wind across the pitch. We played much much better this time against Chapelfield. We got off to a great start with a lovely moved finished really well by Logi Bear who went on to score two more similar goals - his third was a beautiful move involving 4p and Paul Gerrard K.
Chapelfield failed to threaten our goal in the first half - welcome back Lloydy!

Second half (against the wind) Simo finished off a delightful move to make it 4-0. We went through a scrappy complacent period for 20 minutes in which Chapelfield scored their consolation goal. Then 4p started - firstly a winding run down the right ring - a cross to Simon and 5-1. A corner from Sebby hit first time by 4P, 6-1.

The lads reversed the poor league result to win convincingly. Coaches were proud of the battling display.
MOTM was 4p closely followed by Logi Bear and Paul Gerrard. Special recognition for Stevi L who played very well.

25th January - Chapelfields Colts (A) 5-2 (L)

After 3 very good performances in 2004, this was easily forgettable and our worst display of the year.

Chapelfield are bottom of the league and thoroughly deserved their win. We took the lead following a nice through ball from Simon O to Simon R who finished at the second attempt. Logan missed a great opportunity to make it 2-0. Poor concentration in defence, a clear penalty and it was 1-1. Poor defending at a corner, 2-1. We stopped playing and Chapelfield took charge. H.T 4-2 with Simon O scoring following a good move.

Second half we performed a little better missing no less than 6 one-on-ones with their keeper.

Coaches comments - The attitude of certain members of the team before the game was very poor. The desire to prank about is irratating and must stop. The lack of focus showed early against Dunlop and again today. If our approach and attitude was always good we would be much higher in the league and regarded as a very good team. Certain players need to decide whether they want to play football or have a day out in the park....Todays game was a great opportunity to build on recent performances and to continue to put in our games the things we are practising in the coaching sessions. Attitude got in the way and it is a real shame.

No MOTM today (Floyds view)

18th January - Dunlop Juniors 2-7 (W) (A)

Only one change from the match against Wyken, with Stevi List coming in at full-back and Frasier moving to Centre Forward whilst Haz goes to LCFC on a six week trial.Good luck to Haz with this opportunity.

It is pleasing to report a resounding win for the boys which, was well deserved and carried on the good form so far in 2004.

In the first half, up-hill and against a slight breeze we started badly. Two defensive mistakes enabled Dunlop to take the lead. Logi Bear equalised on both occasions - the second following a fortunate penalty decision.

Our play in the first half was forgettable.

In the second half, we took the game to Dunlop, our passing game returned and the movement up-front was the best this year. We scored 5 goals and could have scored many more but for some excellent keeping. We hit the post twice in the game and missed 4 one-on-ones.

MOTM was Logi Bear for the quality of his goals and effort and commitment. Frasier came a close second and I will remember his clever lob over the keeper from an acute angle - a highlight of the game. (floyds opinion)

Scorers Logi Bear (4), Frasier (Rooney) Mullis (2) and 4P with a solo goal.

A great second half - passing movement and periods of VERY good TPM (touch-pass-move).

11th January - Wyken FC (A) 2-0 (L)

We started with the same formation that played so well against London Rd. Kicking up-hill in the first half, we conceded an early goal following a hopeful long ball from Wyken, which we failed to clear on two occasions. After this, the lads played some superb football, taking the game to Wyken and only their goalkeeper kept them in the lead. D Frain had a very good first half in defence and Sebby made some good contributions on the wing. Haz, Simon and Logi all went close with 4p and Simon O running the game. Did anybody not see the blatent hand-ball in the box?

In the second half, with the slope and wind we expected to take charge...and we did. 85-90% of the play was in the Wyken half and they defended extremely well. However we could not create any clear chances and we forgot to play our normal passing football which in the end was our downfall. On a rare clearance upfield by Wyken, Dan was caught in possession and they stumbled to a second goal. Very unjust!

Immediately after this we got a penalty (great save from their keeper) hard luck Fraser. In a huge goalmouth scramble we simply could not get the right connection and we had a few other chances before the end. Wyken's coach stated that we played the better football but lacked a final quality pass and some luck. Wykens keeper was also outstanding.

So.....if we ignore the result, this was another really good performance from the lads - if we keep this up, some team is going to suffer!

MOTM was 4P with Jazziboy a close second for a much improved performance (Floyds opinion). Simo deserves a mention for his bravery and good judgement in the second half. Fraser (Mr Utility) Mullis and Dan "Woodgate" Frain battled extremely well.

4th January - London Road Lions (H) 3-3 (D)

Scorers Fraser Mullis and Logan Cain (2)

With 11 players turning out, the lads played (arguably) their best game of the season against a top 3 side.

We made a number of changes with Harry moving to Centre Forward, Simon O into midfield, Fraser to left back, Simo into goal and Paul playing the anchor role in midfield.

Lions are a big strong side however despite this the lads battled well and, on chances created and football played, we won the first half . Fraser scored first with a late run to meet a cross and he hit the ball low into the corner. Lions equalised just before half time from a free kick which, hit the bar, was not cleared and returned into the net.

We dominated the next 30 minutes with Logan scoring twice. The second was a great move created by Fraser to Paul and Paul a long 40 yard pass to Logan who finished exquisitely.

In the last 5 minutes we lost our heads and our defending was dreadful letting in two soft goals to give them a undeserved draw.

This was a great performance from the lads. The team kept its shape right up to the last 5 minutes. Special mention for a superb tackle from Fraser in the second half, when one of their players was goal bound.

MOM from floyd was P Koenig with special mentions for 4P, Haz, Logie Bear, Simon and Fraser.

14th December - Central Ajax (A) 5-4 (L)

With a reduced squad to 11 players and 3 players suffering from mild colds, the lads battled hard and were unlucky not to get at least a point.

A bad defensive error led to the first goal after 5 mins and shortly after, they scored a superb goal from a long range shot. We settled into the game and had a couple of chances before we conceded a soft penalty from a corner. Simon Olorenshaw then scored a superb individual goal shooting from 25 yards after beating two players. Simon Rawbone followed this up chasing a through ball to slot the ball into the corner of the net. We were back in it!

Just before half time and typical of our luck, the referee gave another penalty, harsh decision, for a tackle on the edge of the box (10 out of 10 for the theatrical display from their player).

In the second half we conceded a goal and then started to play. The last 20 mins belonged to us and we scored twice through Thorpey and Logan. We missed a couple of chances which would have given us a deserved draw. In the end the coaches were delighted with the battling performance, but disappointed with most of our technical play, our ability to win/compete for the loose ball and our passing. Luck forward to the return game.

Floyd

MOM were Paul Koenig (Marks choice) and Simon Rawbone (Floyd's choice)

7th December - Coundon Cockerels (H) 1 - 4 (L)

A disappointing performance from the lads. We seem to respect the league leaders too much and after 20 minutes, we were 3-0 down and had'nt really got into the game.

In the second half, we created 3 really good chances before Harry scored a well worked individual goal - shooting across the keeper low from an acute angle.

Overall, one game to forget.
